When you meet an Asian who is not good at math or science, are you surprised? What about meeting a black american who is neither good at, nor interested in, sports? These are generally thought of as "positive stereotypes," that is to say that they paint the racial group in a positive light. However, they are stereotypes, no less.
If a group of people is largely thought of in one way, how can individuals escape the racial stereotype? Do they have to prove themselves again and again with each new person they meet? Is it possible to escape, at all?
