I learned that if you get to many concussions than you can get CTE and die. I didnt know that playing a game that involves contact can do so much damage to you without even knowing about it until it is too late. In Law & Order it was shown to us that some people are so messed up from concussions that they cant even remember something that is said to them thirty seconds ago. The show that we watched about concussions really showed me what could happen and what does happen if you get to many head injuries. I think in sports like Football, Hockey, and Lacrosse they need to make equipment that is even safer than what they use today to prevent these kind of injuries.

It has been shown that you don't need to receive concussions to have CTE. It was shown through a 21 year old that has significant traces of CTE, although never receiving a concussion. The importance of this disease needs to be brought about, especially ensuring the safety of youth, as their brains are still developing.

I believe that football is a dangerous sport. And u also believe that as long as the players know what there getting into they should be able to play as they want.

Before we started talking about this subject, I didn't know anything about it. After watching the episode of Law and Order, I saw what some people are like after playing football and getting CTE. It's sad to think that a sport that is loved by fans, players, and our country can change somebody in a way to where they can't even properly remember things.

I also learned from the articles, that it's not always getting many concussions that lead to CTE, it's also just all the banging and bruising that your head goes through when they play.

I knew that concussions were serious, but I didn't know how bad the long term effects were. I didn't know how many people were affected by such brain trauma either.....not finished

The fact that you don't need to receive a concussion to end up with this disease is astonishing, it really changes the way that sports should be played. If people are willing to risk long term affects, then the sport should be made as safe as possible for the players. One of thing that I read was, "The league estimates that 6,000 former players, or nearly 3 in 10, could develop Alzheimer's disease or moderate dementia," (DenverPost.com). After watching documentaries and seeing the seriousness of the disease, and knowing that it can lead to people committing suicide, we should really change the way that sports are played to ensure the safety of the players.

This has very much changed my views on concussions and CTE and the facts i learned and it has amazed me the denial the NFL first had on the topic and the things they are still doing to only protect there business and not there players this is something i will follow especially after the case that's in progress right is over about how much and if the NFL should have to pay old players that have signs of CTE.

after reading our articles and watching league of denial i will now view concussions differently. watching mike Webster and his problems year after he played in the NFL. it has changed my views because i also have just shrugged off concussions but it can lead to long term affects like CTE. im not saying you or i will have brain injuries if we play football but there are chances you will get hurt and its likely that it will be a head injury. maybe not now but possibly later in life especially if you play at higher level then high school.

My views on the concussions been shaped very dramatically after watching and reading all of the documentaries and articles on concussions and CTE later in the football players life. Dr Bennet Omalu's statement on the history of concussions really opened my eyes to the long term damage they cause. I already somewhat had former knowledge of concussions and what they did, but after reading his quotes and what he had to say really changed my opinion on the subject. He said, " Every blow to the head is dangerous. Repeated concussions and sub-concussions can both cause permanent brain damage.". I Believe we need to warn the players before hand the risks of playing and offer compensation to those who suffer from the Brain diseases and later life complications because of playing that sport.

Like a few of my other classmates, I didn't even know about CTE until we started on this project. I know that concussions aren't needed to have CTE, but I think that they would definitely not help the situation. From the documentary we watched and the articles we have read, I think it is safe to assume that head trauma, no matter how bad it is, can cause serious long term damage. I believe that people should know the risk they are taking when they play football, hockey, and other sports that are known for causing head trauma.

InstructionsIt's really quite simple. Each week, I will post a question to the blog, and you will respond to it by commenting (100+ words). You will also gently question other students and respond to their questions to you. See the syllabus for more information about the expectations. I will give you examples of adequate responses in class. Archives
